so there's that

I don't even know if anyone I've friended is still reading this - if you are - hey. So tumblr has decided to join that bandwagon where they refuse to take into account what their users actually want and it's stopped being user friendly and the new xkit isn't able to keep up with the new levels of fuckery that tumblr has wrought, so here I am again.

Also because this is a permanent account and I should use the damn thing. Has LJ stopped being weird and awful?

This may be the new home of andtheyfightcrime.tumblr.com

hi hongo

I don't like what you like

This is a mostly dead fandom livejournal with interludes of life. I'm keeping it up as a private archive of stuff I used to love and still love. I used to be someone else and now I'm still someone else, but with better hair. Still shaky on the time management stuff though.

I wrote a novel but I'll post blurbs

I've been back in South Korea for nearly 3 months. In that time, I got a powerful crush, suffered a even more powerful case of pneumonia (my lungs and the South Korean winter are not compatible in anyway), was told that I was condescending, learned firsthand why you can't really have a confidant in a person you've known for two weeks, and am the unofficial bearer of office secrets and emotional upheavals.

live from self-centered land and incidentally, South KoreaCollapse )

in a nutshell aka why I'm picking splinters out of my skin

I am kind of depressed and very FEELINGS! WHY DO I HAVE FEELINGS about an old/new development in my life and I think it's only been exacerbated by the colder weather - fall has arrived in California! I should be more excited about it because cinnamon and pumpkin spice and apple spice and basically I want to shove my face into a pile of sweaters and marvel about how the leaves on the trees here don't actually change color.

Sigh.

I aged, went up in a balloon, went to Catalina Island, rode a bike after...a long time not riding a bike, realized how disgustingly unfit I am and have been trying to do things about that.

I'm still determined to get Korea, year 2 off the ground, but it is looking grim. I'm going to give it another month or so, while applying for temporary holiday work at home. This will mean I will finally need to learn how public transportation works at home, something I'm not looking forward to, but lots of people do it so I can learn it too.

I have no problem with public transportation abroad, but in a state like California, where car culture is ingrained in the bloodstream, it's difficult. But then I think about not having to pay car insurance or worrying about parking or car accidents, and it makes it a little better.

SO, television!

when I don't want to talk about real feelings!Collapse )

fierce meisa: ATTITUDE

you don't understand, I have to do this with all of my fruit IMMEDIATELY

the bananas! they are SPEAKING to you

I've watched JIU raw and I will watch it again with subs, but mostly the first episode is

a) a showcase for Meisa's inevitable work out DVD
b) Meisa on a motorcycle
c) Meisa taking down Oscar (Hana Kimi 2007) during karate practice repeatedly
d) Tabe Mikako in a series of cute white outfits
e) Shirota being all hot and skulking and morally ambiguous
f) ALL OF THESE THINGS, MY GOD

oh, and also some blonde random kid appearing in white like a badly styled mirage or a refugee from a Shinee video

Arakawa under the Bridge: Quirky, odd slice of life

Ah, summer J-dramas. I always come back to you, no matter how long the flirtation with other media is.

First up, Arakawa picspam. I can't really explain it. The manga/anime is so weird and the characters - well it's got this space alien/outsider POV/crazy cosplay/bizarre children's television program vibe about it.

Short version: the heir to a company falls into debt to a odd girl who saves him from drowning. When he asks her what she wants as a reward, she tells him to come live with her underneath a bridge. HIJINKS ENSUE.

It's a very short drama - it's barely half an hour long, so you can zip through it pretty quickly. It's a delightfully deadpan/punny jewel of a show, and I only hope it gets even better. The world of Arakawa seems so fascinating to me already.

Oh, obviously - SPOILERS for the first episode of Arakawa after the cut
like the little mermaid on acid and what the cast of Original Hana Kimi have been up toCollapse )

Cat House on the Kings, a set on Flickr.

Me and A went on a road trip up to Parlier, CA to frolic in a cat sanctuary.

We met the owner and went to the screening of the National Geo Wild show, "The Lady with 700 cats" at a Fresno sports bar.

It's not an episode of hoarders. Even if you don't like cats, this animal shelter is doing good work - they also have dogs for adoption, and a peacock (more than one?) roams around the grounds. It's run solely by donations.
